I was introduced to Richard McCann nearly 16 years ago by a mutual friend who knew that my fledgling holster business was in need of a machinist to produce custom leather manufacturing equipment. Upon meeting Richard, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that he not only knew his way around a machine shop, but he was a life long, avid shooter and a master gunsmith!

My family owned a machine shop in Brooklyn for over 85 years. The majority of machinists were old world German masters. As Richard produced work for me, it became readily apparent that he was a machinist of the same old world caliber! His knowledge extends well beyond the machinery he uses to produce his products and shows a clear and absolute understanding of metallurgy and design as well.

The Colt 1911 and Springfield M1A work, turned out by McCann's shop, is on par with any of the industries leading names and would certainly get my endorsement. In addition to fine gunsmithing, Richard also produces a rather unique, portable camp stove, ideally suited to guides and outfitters. Design is excellent and the workmanship is superb. Arguably the best M1A scope mount is also a McCann creation that has received critical acclaim by leading gun writers, and is in use by several prominent authorities in special operation sniping.

As if all of this isn't enough, Richard has spent the last few years designing state of the art, working knives. These heavy duty knives were designed with considerable input from members of the U.S. Army 1st Special Forces Group, stationed here in Washington, at Fort Lewis. After several years of research and development, it can be fairly stated that the knives produced by McCann Industries are among the finest of their type available anywhere, at any price!

While discussing the promotion of his products, I expressed my concern to Richard, that he may be viewed as a jack of all trades and a master of none, given the wide range of products he now makes. The fact of the matter is, that Richard McCann is one of those rare craftsmen who is a "Jack of all Trades, and a Master of them all".
